happy wife healthy life — finding happiness & health in the home, in the kitchen, and in life about who am i? brand partnerships media – work with me subscribe to hwhl’s newsletter beautycounter {safer beauty} pregnancy motherhood home building series tour my first home happy & healthy hwhl travel my love 08/30/2018 postpartum recovery: one year later this moment, right here, was one of the absolute greatest of my life. the days that followed were easy, and felt absolutely perfect. nothing could bring me down. i felt confident that my postpartum recovery would be as smooth as my pregnancy. many of you know though that this was not my entire experience. i try to be open about my struggle because i know how lonely i got, and i know i’m not the only one. in fact, it is probably a lot less rare than you may think. to be honest, this year was easily one of the best and hardest of my life. the first six months (maybe even a little more?) after savannah was born felt like a blur. i was not in a great place mentally, and a lot of days felt really really hard. call it the baby blues. call it postpartum depression. i‘m not sure how to title it since i was never formally diagnosed, but something was definitely off. i knew it, and those immediately surrounding me knew it. arriving on the other side has been a challenge filled with support from my family and friends. but here’s the truth: i feel so emotional about saying goodbye to this year because i feel like i wasn’t fully present. i was simply surviving, not thriving. i have been scrolling through pictures of savannah as a baby lately, and i can honestly say that i don’t remember when half the pictures were taken. i was there, but not fully. and, yes, this is an extremely vulnerable post to share. if i hadn’t admitted this out loud though – i can guarantee that you would never know i walked through this experience. i kept it completely together publicly and professionally, while inwardly i was a mess. so yes, i wish i could go back and relive this year. but that’s not my story. my story is one that i hope will be used for good. i want to use this struggle to encourage any others who may have gone through a similar experience, or who are currently in the storm. it can be embarrassing as a mom to feel blue when you have been given an incredible gift, but i will not be ashamed. it is not my fault. i asked for help. and as hard as this year has been, it has also been filled with some of the most beautiful, perfect, moments of my life. posted by happywifehealthylife leave a comment 08/24/2018 fall wardrobe transition 2018 sure, we aren’t quite out of august yet, but this week’s weather was a positive sign of what’s to come. it has been such a hot and humid summer, so i’m looking forward to fall even more so than usual. and although i know the temperatures will go back up again before summer comes to an end, the weather lately has been a nice ‘tease.’ cooler nights, a slight crispness in the air. in fact, i took the kids to a ‘tot’s outing’ on wednesday late morning, and honestly was surprised when we stepped out of the car to a chilly wind. note to self: it’s that time of the year to keep a light jacket, and a couple blankets, in the car at all times. just in case! as we start to transition from a summer to a fall wardrobe, here are a few pieces that have caught my eye, and that have made their way onto my wishlist. there are even quite a few items on the list that i already own and that i believe are tried-and-true staples for anyone looking to have more of a capsule / neutral / mom-friendly wardrobe. here are five outfit ideas that can easily be mixed-and-matched to create the fall-transition wardrobe of your dreams. there are high-priced items such as the sam edelman boots and madewell jeans, but those pieces pair easily with more budget friendly options from carly jean los angeles, old navy, bp brand from nordstrom, and j. crew factory. central shirt in pure white madewell i feel like a basic white button-up like this one is necessary for a fall transition. pair with a great pair of high-waisted jeans and cognac block heels , and grab this crossbody bag as you walk out the door, to look put-together with ease. (i own those block heels from old navy (bought last fall) and they are incredibly comfortable, easy to walk in, and i’ve never gotten a blister from them. size up one half size! also, i own these jeans in white and i’m obsessed! the perfect amount of stretch, and this mom adores a high-waist.) open front sweater blazer in navy j. crew factory i own this sweater and love it! i actually bought it at the end of spring for beautycounter’s leadership summit in minneapolis. i loved both the color and cut, and the length is perfect and covers well.
